The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado, is the nation's primary laboratory for research and development of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.
This position is part of the Scientific Publishing section in NREL's Communications Office. This position is responsible for producing and releasing electronic and print publications for NREL and its partners, including the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). This includes providing publishing assistance to NREL staff and ensuring that NREL prime contract, NREL Publishing Procedure, and U.S. government printing rules and regulations are met. The position requires in:depth working knowledge of both electronic and print document production. A Document Specialist converts native files (Word, PowerPoint, InDesign) into Section 508 compliant PDFs for distribution. They update and release records using NRELs Publishing Tracker software and are responsible for ensuring all policies and procedures are followed and all the proper documentation exists for the publications they release.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Production and release of electronic and print publications.
Knowledge of document production including experience producing PDFs from other file types.
Review, format, and manage fonts and other graphic elements of each publication (print and electronic).
Work with clients to manage document revisions and proofs and finalize the publication for publishing.
Ensure that all required paperwork and reviews, as outlined in the Publishing Procedure, are completed before release.
Maintain records in the publishing database.
Distribute products through established distribution systems including NREL Document Distribution, Government Printing Office Depository Program, etc.
Participate in weekly Scientific Publishing meetings.
Maintain current and historic publication records.
Maintain electronic and/or physical files of each print job with all required paperwork.
Review files for completeness and move files to long:term records storage as appropriate.
High School Diploma
Associates Degree in communications, journalism, English or a related field.
Additional Required Qualifications
Demonstrated success managing customer relationships.
Good collaborative, team, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to effectively manage multiple projects of varying size and complexity.
Ability to work in a fast paced, detail:oriented environment, while consistently maintaining a high:quality standard.
Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, PPT, etc.).
